Tintilla canaria

Present on all the islands, though not abundant, and grown interplanted with other varieties. It matches Merenzao, María Ordoña or Maturana Tinta on the mainland, and is France's Trousseau. In the Canary Islands the name Tintilla is applied to many deeply coloured red varieties (Baboso Negro, Bastardo Negro, Castellana Negra…), so homonyms abound; it should not be confused with Andalusia's Tintilla de Rota. Small bunch (about 77 g), medium ripening, high alcohol (14.7% probable) and medium acidity: better suited to young wines than to ageing.
