Picapoll negre

Probably the rarest variety in the catalogue: its range does not go beyond the Pla de Bages and the far reaches of Osona. Distinct from the white Picapoll. Historically it was more common in the Camp de Tarragona and the Priorat than in the Bages: according to Oliveras (1915), before phylloxera it was a main variety in seven villages of the area and a secondary one in twenty-eight. In 1889 it is also recorded in the judicial districts of Vic, Granollers, Sabadell and Mataró-Arenys de Mar (Ferrer i Alòs and Plans i Maestra, Dossiers Agraris ICEA 9, 2006).
