Listán Negro

Found on all the islands, with its largest area in Tenerife. No synonyms are known outside the Canary Islands, where it has many names depending on the island or area, and it is not a synonym of Tempranillo, as some studies have claimed. Molecular analyses show it is a cross between Listán Blanco de Canarias and Negramoll. Large bunch, sometimes very compact, with a risk of rot and powdery mildew. Medium ripening (late August at Valle de Guerra) and low acidity: wines with a very marked aromatic quality, better suited to drinking young than to ageing.
