Gual (El Hierro)

Found mainly on El Hierro, with occasional presence on other islands such as Tenerife. On the mainland it is called Gual, Tarantey de Nerga, Torrontés and Uval; in Portugal, Boal, Boal Cachudo and Malvasía Fina. It should not be confused with the «Gual» grown around Mazo (La Palma), a homonym. SNP analyses suggest it is probably a cross of Hebén and Baboso Negro. Medium-large bunch (about 340 g), early ripening (mid-August at Valle de Guerra); medium-high acidity and high alcohol, with a quality aromatic profile although tending to evolve quickly.
