Fil·loxera & CiaPilar Esteve · José Ramón Domènech
When the local cooperative classed Arco, Ull de Llebre and Valencí as 'non-recommended varieties', three partners from a garage in Fontanars decided to rescue them. Twelve years later, Fil·loxera & Cia farms 17 hectares of bush vines, with vines up to 60 years old, and is processing the official authorisation of varieties that Valencian viticulture would otherwise have lost.
Fontanars dels Alforins, at 700 metres altitude. Deep calcareous soils, cold winters and dry summers. A territory that has preserved an extraordinary ampelographic heritage because mechanisation never fully arrived.
- 17 hectáreas en vaso, casi todas en espaldera baja o libre conducción
- Variedades rescatadas: Arco, Ull de Llebre, Valencí, Moscatel Romano, Macabeo
- Vines up to 60 years old, calcareous soils of the Terres dels Alforins
The Terres dels Alforins is one of the most singular wine-growing centres of the Valencian Community.

Golden colour, dense in the glass. Floral, perfumed nose, with aromas of ripe white and yellow fruit, light toast, jam and notes of French oak. Full-bodied, voluminous palate, fresh and light on the finish, tasty and persistent. Complex, with a spicy finish, scrubland herbs and ripe fruit. 94 Parker points (Luis Gutiérrez).
Color daurat dens i brillant. Nas floral i perfumat —fruita blanca i groga madura, mel, notes de criança sobre lies, lleugera torrada, confitura i fusta francesa.

Intense, dense picota-cherry colour. Intense, complex nose: ripe black fruit, plums and blackberries, with toasty and toffee nuances. Powerful palate with a sweet sensation and volume. Pleasant, marked tannin. Balanced wine with a marked Mediterranean character, mouth-watering with a fruity, fresh finish.
Final golós, afruitat i fresc.

A complex Mediterranean white wine, aged on lees. Very aromatic nose: pear, ripe quince, white flowers, fennel and Mediterranean herbs. Broad, unctuous, glyceric palate, with vibrant acidity that balances the ripeness. Long, persistent finish, dry and subtly bitter.

Medium-depth cherry colour, glyceric and very bright. Fresh, deep nose: flower petals and red fruit, creamy notes and very soft touches of integrated toast. Fresh, light palate that nonetheless fills the mouth with volume. Very soft, integrated, ripe tannin. Fresh and appetising, easy to drink, with a deep, spicy, mineral finish. 93 Parker points (Luis Gutiérrez).
Color vermell grana. Boca àgil i expressiva, cos mig-alt, tanins presents, acidesa viva. L'Arco —varietat autòctona rarísima— 'fresh and vibrant, truly uncommon for Mediterranean standards', descriu el productor.

Nota editorial
L'Arco, Ullet de Perdiu and Valencí were not 'interesting old varieties' when Fil·loxera & Cia. found them in Fontanars dels Alforins: they were varieties the local cooperative classed as non-recommended and that were disappearing. Fil·loxera rescued them, studied them and thanks to their work they are now in the process of official authorisation in the DO Valencia Clariano. Natural wine of varietal recovery, in the Terres dels Alforins, with a philosophy that puts genetic heritage ahead of the market.
The fact that all this is done from a garage, with three partners who make decisions together and make wine with minimal intervention, makes Fil·loxera & Cia an inevitable reference for any project that truly wants to tell the story of Valencian wine heritage.
